NGC 2244, The Rosette/Skull Nebula

This shot represents the best 90 minutes out of about 3 hours of telescope time spent on one of my absolute favorite deep sky objects. The Rosette nebula has some of the most beautiful colors in the night sky, and the play of dark dust clouds across its face is so intricate and lovely that it’s truly a shame it’s so faint you could barely detect it with the naked eye through even a very large telescope.
