Conical mushrooms like this one usually start out with a round circular head that only becomes conical when a thin tissue called the “veil” tears, allowing spores to fall from the mature fruiting body. The veil can be seen sliding down the stem, just at the edge of the frame, and there is some lovely detail on the torn edge of the mushroom cap itself.
