Orion Nebulae

Orion is one of the most highly visible and well-recognized constellations in the Northern Hemisphere sky. In addition to some of the brightest stars in the sky, the belt region also contains several nebulae. Most visible here is the large pink Orion nebula M42, but if you squint you can just barely make out the Horsehead and Flame nebulae near Alnitak, the leftmost star in Orion’s belt, and the Running Man nebula, just above M42.

I’m particularly proud of this shot, despite the fact that much better shots of Orion exist and it’s an easy popular starting target, because this was shot through the insane light pollution of Las Vegas, the town that took the Bortle scale as a personal challenge.
